5. The Ascension and Pentecost

The Ascension into Heaven

Forty days after rising, Jesus said to the apostles: "Go and preach the Gospel to all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. I am with you always, to the end of the world." After this, he ascended into heaven and a cloud covered him.

Pentecost

The apostles returned to Jerusalem and waited. On the day of Pentecost, there was a sudden sound from heaven, like a rushing mighty wind... and tongues of fire appeared, resting on each of them. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages... Peter preached and that day about three thousand people were baptized.
