The Adulterous Woman

For his part, Jesus withdrew to the Mount of Olives. Very early in the morning, He returned again to the Temple, and all the people came to Him; He sat down and began to teach them. The scribes and Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery and placed her in the middle. —Teacher —they said to Him—, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery. Moses, in the Law, commanded us to stone such women; what do You say? —They said this to test Him, so that they might have a charge to bring against Him. But Jesus stooped down and began to write on the ground with his finger. As they continued to ask Him, He stood up and said to them: —Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her. And once again He stooped down and continued writing on the ground. When they heard this, they began to go away one by one, beginning with the elders, and Jesus was left alone, with the woman standing in the middle. Jesus stood up and said to her: —Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you? —No one, Lord —she replied. Jesus said to her: —Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.
